Lacquer wares from JTMUSES Diarise Saturday 6 Dec 2025 at the i’mable Collective Market (iCM), Enabling Village🖤 Ever wondered what makes lacquer trays so mesmerizing?
For centuries, Vietnamese artisans have transformed simple wood into radiant works of art using lacquer—a natural resin from the lacquer tree (the cây sơn variant in Vietnam).
✨ Layering process: brush, dry, sand, repeat: Upon hardening, the lacquer forms a smooth layer over the underlying base material, protecting it from degradation while maintaining its colour and beauty.
After each layer is applied, the craftsman has to wait for days for the lacquer to dry before sanding it down and applying another layer. When the desired layers are applied, the lacquer piece is then polished again.
Each tray is coated with multiple thin layers, dried for days, sanded, and polished to perfection. That’s how it gets its signature gloss and depth.
💡 Lacquerware Care 101:
• No microwaves, ovens, or direct flames.
• Hot drinks? Yes. Boiling liquids? Nope.
• Avoid soaking or fridge dryness.
Low-temperature use is not a problem, but be cautious that storing lacquerware in the refrigerator may cause drying and potential cracking.
Do not leave lacquerware soaking in water or with wet items for extended periods.
Keep lacquerware in a cool, shaded area, ideally inside a cupboard. If stacking, place a soft cloth or paper between items to prevent scratches.🌿 Head to my bio link to shop for this festive season. Crafted with tradition. Treasured with care.
